Choose a clear theme and purpose
Learn how to turn a creative idea into a complete workshop, circle, retreat or program—and develop the facilitation skills to lead it with confidence.
The Creative Alchemy Certification is for coaches, teachers, artists, circle leaders, retreat leaders, wellness practitioners and creative professionals who want to use expressive arts in their work with others.
You will learn a clear method for designing and leading creative experiences that support reflection, insight, connection and meaningful change.
Founding cohort begins November 5, 2026.
You may already use creativity in your coaching, teaching, retreats or group programs.
You may have ideas for workshops but struggle to organize them into a clear and complete experience.
Or you may know that art-making can help people access new insights, but you are not sure how to guide that process responsibly.
The Creative Alchemy Certification gives you a practical method for moving from an idea to an experience you are prepared to lead.
You will learn how to:
Choose a clear theme and purpose
Create a step-by-step workshop or retreat plan
Design simple and meaningful creative activities
Write reflection questions that help participants find their own insights
Lead group sharing without pressure
Manage time, energy and group participation
Support people who feel nervous or resistant about making art
Maintain clear ethical and professional boundaries
Help participants integrate what they discover
Creative Alchemy is a non-clinical method for designing and facilitating expressive arts experiences.
It combines:
Simple art-making
Journaling and reflection
Story, metaphor and archetype
Symbols and images
Ritual and intentional space
Group sharing and witnessing
Practical integration
The purpose is not to teach art techniques or create polished artwork.
The purpose is to help participants use the creative process to understand themselves more clearly, recognize new possibilities and decide what they want to carry forward.
As the facilitator, you do not interpret another person’s art or tell them what their experience means. You create the structure, offer the creative invitation, ask useful questions and help participants discover their own meaning.
I had the beautiful privilege of being able to walk through this work with Minette several years ago, and I don't think I could have known then how much it would influence the way I would eventually work with others.
Minette didn't simply teach me how to incorporate art into a workshop or group experience. She helped me understand how creativity can
become an invitation—an invitation to slow down, listen inwardly, notice what is emerging, and discover something for ourselves that words alone may not have been able to reach. That distinction has stayed with me.
Today, as I create and facilitate experiences for women, expressive art has become an important part of how I invite people into reflection
and self-discovery. I am not there to interpret someone's art or tell her what it means. I get to create a safe, thoughtful container, offer the
invitation, ask meaningful questions, and then trust the woman in front of me to discover what is hers to discover. ♥️ That is one of the
greatest gifts Minette's work has given me.
She also helped give me permission to create from my own voice rather than simply reproducing someone else's work. Over the years, that seed has continued to grow as I have developed my own workshops, groups, curriculum, and way of walking alongside others.
But there is another reason Minette's work remains important to me, and it may be the most personal one.
The kind of art Minette invites me into is not necessarily art I would choose to do on my own—and that is exactly why I need it. Her work
continually invites me outside the familiar ways I think, process, and problem-solve. It gives me permission to put down the role of facilitator and become a participant again. I don't have to create something for someone else, figure out what comes next, or turn the experience into a lesson. I simply get to make, notice, listen, and discover.
♥️In a life where I spend so much time creating spaces for other people, Minette's work helps me keep a space for my own reflection
sacred.♥️ That is why, years later, I still want to return to her work.
Not because I need another collection of techniques or another certification to put after my name. I return because I know what happens when I allow myself to enter a creative process without already knowing where it is going. Minette's work stretches me beyond the ways I would naturally explore on my own and helps me remain curious, open, and willing to be surprised by what I discover. And I believe that makes me a better guide for others, too.
Minette has a beautiful ability to provide enough structure for you to feel held, while leaving enough space for you to discover what is
uniquely yours.
If you feel as though there is something inside you that you want to bring into the world—a workshop, a circle, a retreat, a program, or simply a different way of serving the people entrusted to you—Creative Alchemy isn't about teaching you to become more like Minette. It is about creating the space for you to discover what is already waiting to emerge through you.
I am deeply grateful that I got to be there at the beginning. And I'm even more grateful that the journey continues. 🥰
By the end of the Creative Alchemy Certification, you will be able to:
Design a complete expressive arts workshop, circle, retreat or program
Create a clear beginning, middle and end for the experience
Write creative invitations that are simple and accessible
Guide reflection without interpreting someone else’s artwork
Use story, symbol, metaphor, archetype and ritual with purpose
Give clear instructions and manage the pace of a group
Invite sharing without requiring personal disclosure
Respond to creative resistance and uncertainty
Create emotionally respectful and trauma-aware experiences
Teach the Creative Alchemy framework in your own voice
Design a signature Creative Alchemy experience
Facilitate a portion of that experience during your final practicum
You will finish the program with a complete event plan, a certification portfolio and practical experience teaching and facilitating your work.
The certification is built around two original frameworks developed by Dr. Minette Riordan.
The 8 Elements are both a personal path and a practical framework for designing meaningful creative experiences:
Rest
Reflection
Knowing
Reverence
Play
Connection
Joy
Integration
You will experience each element personally and learn how to use the elements when designing experiences for others.
They will help you ask practical questions such as:
Is there enough time for participants to slow down?
Is there space for reflection?
Are participants encouraged to trust their own responses?
Does the experience create connection without forcing interaction?
Is there room for experimentation and play?
Does the closing help participants understand and use what they discovered?
The elements give you a consistent design structure while allowing you to create programs for different topics, settings and audiences.
The Creative Discovery Cycle is the four-step expressive arts process at the center of Creative Alchemy:
Create → Reflect → Discover → Integrate
Participants begin by making something.
They then reflect on what they notice.
They identify an insight, question or new understanding.
Finally, they decide how they want to use or respond to that discovery.
You will learn how to guide each step without interpreting the artwork or deciding what the experience should mean for someone else.
The Creative Alchemy Certification unfolds in two connected phases.
This structure gives you time to experience the work personally before you begin learning how to design and facilitate it for others.
In Phase 1, you explore the 8 Elements and learn the Creative Discovery Cycle.
In Phase 2, you learn how to design, facilitate and teach Creative Alchemy experiences before completing your certification practicum.
This is not a quick certification or a program-in-a-box. It is a guided progression from personal creative discovery into skilled and ethical facilitation.

Two 90-minute live training calls

You should be prepared to participate consistently, complete the assignments and make time for both personal creative exploration and professional practice. This is a spacious 10-month training, but it is not a passive one. If you want to learn how to design and facilitate transformational expressive arts workshops, circles, retreats and programs, Creative Alchemy offers a focused methodology and certification path.
Yes. The live training calls and online intensives will be recorded and added to the online classroom.
You will be able to return to the teaching, creative practices and demonstrations when your schedule allows.
The live experience is still an important part of the program. The calls include discussion, peer connection, feedback and facilitation practice that cannot always be fully replicated through a recording. You are encouraged to attend live whenever possible, especially for practice sessions, mentoring and the final practicum.
Missing an occasional teaching call does not mean you will fall behind. You will have access to the recording and supporting materials so you can stay connected to the progression of the program.
Because this is a skills-based certification, you will still be responsible for completing the required assignments, practice and certification components, whether you attend a particular teaching session live or watch the recording.
No. You will receive frameworks, examples, design tools and guided practice. You will use them to create your own experience rather than copying a program written by Minette.
