--------------------------------

[0:01] : Good morning, my creative friends, and welcome to Painting in Your PJs with Manette. I'm Dr. Manette Ryarden. Super
[0:08] : excited to be here with you. As always, this is such a fun time for me of really
[0:15] : committing to my own consistent creative practice of just showing up to play, to
[0:22] : experiment. This is never about creating a product. Sometimes things turn out really pretty and I love them and
[0:28] : sometimes maybe not so much. But this show, Painting in Your PJs with Manette,
[0:34] : is about how I use art as a creative practice for self-discovery. It's not
[0:40] : step-by-step instruction. It's like follow along with me and let's see what
[0:45] : we can cocreate. And you kind of hear my thought process and rambling as I go
[0:50] : along. I'm super passionate about supporting women in midlife and beyond
[0:56] : to live your best life, to find your purpose, to feel authentic and reconnect to that innate creativity that really
[1:04] : lives inside of all of us. And this month we are doing that. Good morning, Lorraine. This month we are doing that
[1:12] : through making some paper dolls on tags to be able to include them in our art
[1:19] : journal. And I realize I had my finished tag from last week and I don't know
[1:25] : where I put her. I was going to show her, but I will find her and show her at
[1:31] : another time. Hey Karen, good morning. And so today we're going to be creating
[1:37] : our second tag in a four tag series. The first tag was really all about
[1:47] : um connecting to our radiant self. And today is sort of tapping in to our inner
[1:54] : wild to the aspect of ourselves
[1:59] : that feels a little bit untamed but also nostalgic. This is that childlike sense
[2:06] : of summer wonder, no school, running wild and free and recapturing that even
[2:14] : at 60 or 50 or 40 or 70 or 80, whatever age you're currently at, just
[2:21] : reconnecting to that inner sense of what's blooming and alive within me now.
[2:28] : And I have some journal prompts to help us get started thinking about this. I'm
[2:33] : going to put those prompts into the chat. It doesn't let me make them very pretty, but they're also in the
[2:39] : description of the video. If you're watching the replay, if you're here live, I love it when you just say hi in
[2:45] : the chat. Let me know that you're here with me. Super excited. You too, Katie.
[2:52] : And the prompts are I'll also read them. The first one is, "What parts of me have bloomed unexpectedly in midlife or I
[3:00] : would say and beyond? What makes me feel wild, untamed, and alive? And what kind
[3:07] : of environment, either my internal season and weather or external
[3:14] : environment, really helps me to thrive. And so, those are kind of the things
[3:20] : that I'm thinking about today as I dive into my tag making. And I've gathered a
[3:26] : few things here to kind of play with. I have maybe some ideas. Tori, welcome, my
[3:32] : friend. So glad you're back. And um that, you know, I want to play with and
[3:40] : consider as I start down this path today
[3:45] : of creating this wildflower woman or this blooming self. And last week in
[3:53] : part one of this four-part series, I showed how I was using some printed
[4:01] : faces to create my little templates. And I wish I knew what I did with my
[4:08] : finished tag. I took a video of it. Let's see if I can show if I have a
[4:13] : picture of it on my phone.
[4:21] : Where'd that silly? I made a whole video. If you follow me on Instagram, there's a video of it. Oh, here it is.
[4:28] : On my Instagram account. And let's see if I play this all the way to the end.
[4:35] : You can see that I added some fun little duads and flowers. I think maybe that
[4:42] : was Lorraine's idea last week. And um
[4:47] : it's just going to keep going. I thought I had a static photo, but anyway. doesn't matter. But these are so fun and
[4:53] : simple to create. I love working on tags. I'm looking forward to seeing the
[4:59] : four of them together and putting them into one of the journals that I'm
[5:06] : working in. And I'm working on quite a large tag. This is about, I believe, a
[5:11] : 4x8 tag. It's a little bent. And I love working
[5:17] : on this size tag. And as always, I love to start by just doing some journaling
[5:24] : on whatever substrate that I'm working on so that
[5:30] : I sort of just plant the intention. This is just notes for me. It is not for
[5:36] : anyone else. There's nothing um to remember here. you know, if there's
[5:42] : something really important that comes out of the journaling, then I would just transfer it to a journal. Or more often,
[5:48] : I simply just take a picture and uh keep the picture or print the picture out and
[5:54] : paste it into a journal. But my intention here is not writing words to to keep, but just to sort of get my
[6:01] : creative juices flowing, get something down on this blank page that's going to
[6:06] : get me started on my creative process today. And when I think about the parts
[6:12] : of me that have bloomed unexpectedly really probably starting in my late 40s
[6:20] : all the way to now at 60 I would say it's my inner artist has come back you
[6:27] : know in full bloom over the last decade plus. Um, other things, you know, really
[6:35] : connecting to sage and kind of that wise woman archetype are things that have
[6:42] : really started to bloom. I feel like my work feels more aligned than ever and that I
[6:50] : feel more intentional and on purpose in my life. And this has been a long
[6:56] : process of a decade of self-discovery. you know, it's not something that I just
[7:01] : figured out overnight, but something that really has bloomed over time,
[7:07] : right? And I think it's like those cycles of nature things, unless you live in California where things bloom all the
[7:13] : time, most of the time, you know, there's seasonal moments when things bloom and then they goow, right? And
[7:21] : it's thinking about these cycles of life can help us to see, you know, maybe
[7:26] : something bloomed a little and then over time it began to bloom more fully. And
[7:32] : the things that make me feel wild, untamed, and alive are definitely
[7:38] : uh intuitive expression and being in nature,
[7:45] : especially my beautiful Rocky Mountain National Park, being up
[7:51] : in the mountains, you know, on top of a rock looking out at these like incredible views. But being in nature
[7:59] : frequently keeps me thriving, even if it's just a walk in my neighborhood. And
[8:05] : so the environment for me is like I need to live near nature. And I want to
[8:12] : notice that my internal environment sometimes feels calm like a slowmoving
[8:19] : river. Sometimes it feels tempestuous and stormy. I was awoken in the middle
[8:26] : of the night last night by so much loud rain on the roof and a like really loud
[8:32] : thunder coming through. So I notice how when I'm paying attention to my internal
[8:41] : environment, I notice when is it stormy, when is it calm, I notice what does it
[8:46] : need in order to be soothed. And then even in my environment here in my
[8:52] : studio, I have a curated environment. Sometimes it gets really messy and it
[8:58] : needs to get decluttered and order brought back so that I have a clean
[9:04] : slate to play with and not feel completely overwhelmed by everything. So
[9:10] : when I think about what's blooming, this is kind of what I think about. And
[9:15] : here's some of the little, you know, faces and dolls that I started last
[9:21] : week. And I think this little one here is really calling to me today.
[9:29] : Um, the poet Laur la Laurate actually I really like her too of Colorado passed
[9:35] : away this week very young from ovarian cancer. Her name was Andrea Gibson and I
[9:42] : wasn't familiar with her but saw someone share about her and went down the rabbit hole um of exploring and what a
[9:51] : beautiful voice she was. And it's interesting because this face uh reminds me of them. Sorry, not her them reminds
[9:59] : me of them. and this um you know really homage to the poet within me as well
[10:07] : inspired by so many other amazing poets and in my membership the sisterhood of
[10:12] : wisdom and wonder we have been really living into a lot of poetry this week as
[10:20] : well and uh the last two weeks and so poetry seems to be on my heart right now
[10:28] : so I think it's going to be her there's something about her face. It's not about the wildness,
[10:35] : but there's a sense of confidence for me when I look at the expression on her
[10:41] : face. So, I'm going to go with this one. And this is again just a face that I
[10:46] : traced. Where are all my faces?
[10:52] : These are all my coloring pages from we have our next mythical makeover
[10:57] : experience coming up very soon. And apparently I don't have my faces. I have
[11:03] : like 15 projects on this little tiny table at the moment and it's all feeling
[11:10] : very cluttered. Okay, so here's one.
[11:17] : So, basically, I gave you guys in my email for my email list, a bunch of
[11:23] : faces of all different sizes and expressions, all smiling and radiant and
[11:28] : happy. And then I simply made my own graphite paper, traced that onto some
[11:34] : nice mixed media paper, added an abstract body in order to create the
[11:40] : doll. You could 100% do this with collage. You can tell I'm a little scattered this morning and um have a
[11:49] : very full day and you know was trying to do 15 things before I arrived here for a
[11:55] : little bit of calm play. But you could handdraw your faces onto these bodies.
[12:01] : You could use magazine images or photographs as inspiration. We can be very intimidated by drawing faces. So,
[12:09] : make this as simple and easy as it can be for you personally. And I'm going to
[12:18] : am I going to A lot of times I like to gesso if I'm going to paint on these,
[12:23] : but I'm feeling like this is going to be very collagey today. So, I don't necessarily need to add gesso to this if
[12:32] : I'm feeling a little more collagey. I'm gonna zoom in on my face here. And give
[12:39] : me a second while I refocus her. There we go. That's better.
[12:45] : And back to my camera. And like I did last week, I love using the Kinda Ash
[12:52] : Neocolor 2 wateroluble crayons for working really small like this and
[12:59] : creating faces. It's easy to blend colors. And I'm just gonna do her face.
[13:06] : I found this piece of hand painted fabric from another experiment that I
[13:13] : was playing with. And this beautiful blooming fabric is going to be her body
[13:20] : and her dress. Might get some slow stitching added to her over the weekend.
[13:28] : Thank you, Teddy. And good morning or good afternoon. I had uh so much fun
[13:34] : using AI to design all these new faces
[13:40] : for our creative inspiration this month.
[13:47] : And sometimes, like I'm not bad at drawing faces, but what I love about having an image to
[13:56] : start with, whether it's just a magazine image, is that the
[14:04] : sometimes what's the hardest is if to get different expressions and to have
[14:09] : them look, you know, different. So, she is definitely feeling like this mature,
[14:16] : wise woman with her beautiful gray hair.
[14:25] : And mine, as my hairdresser told me last time I saw her, is getting grayer and
[14:32] : grayer all the time. And I am so okay with my gray hair.
[14:51] : I'm just getting that base layer of color on there. Keeping it pretty transparent, pretty loose as I go along
[15:00] : here. Again, not worrying too much.
[15:06] : I'm going to keep her really simple.
[15:13] : I'm going to let that face dry and then I'm going to come in with a fine tip
[15:19] : black marker and bring some of the expressions and details back.
[15:27] : Feels like she wants to have some blue eyes. So, we'll get a little bit of
[15:33] : color there. Little bit of color on her lips. Maybe a
[15:40] : little bit of that pink on her cheeks. I'm noticing that this
[15:47] : mixed media paper is peeling quite a bit if I overwork it. So, I'm being very
[15:54] : gentle with the brush and the the water here.
[16:02] : And I need a rag. tissue
[16:07] : and I'm just taking some of that little bit of that color back off. So, I'm going to set her aside to dry because
[16:13] : you don't ever want to go over your
[16:20] : wet marker or crayon or whatever you're using with a good marker because guess
[16:28] : what? You will ruin the tip of that marker. And I learned that lesson the
[16:33] : hard way. All right, she has a sweet face. So, let's come back to our tag
[16:40] : here. See if we can get a little more light in there.
[16:45] : Gonna have her dress here. And again, I'm keeping these bodies intentionally
[16:54] : very abstract. Let's get this little bit more patterny
[17:00] : piece. It's all about the expression and the
[17:06] : collage. It's all about the energy of the piece.
[17:12] : It's not about making it super realistic or detailed.
[17:21] : Uh, did I do that right? I did do that right. making sure you put your doll
[17:27] : upside down on your fabric or paper that you're tracing so that you get the shape
[17:33] : and the pattern going in the right direction. These are such dull scissors
[17:41] : for cutting fabric. I made her neck a little longer than I need so that I can figure out where I
[17:48] : wanted to go. I also did not cut off the bottom edge of the dress, so I can play
[17:56] : with the length relative to the tag. Plus, I love the little shaggy bit of
[18:02] : this here down at the bottom as well.
[18:11] : She feels very grandmotherly, maybe a little sort of wise woman crone like.
[18:20] : It's great to have you here, Teddy.
[18:28] : And just leaning into that energy of my own inner wise woman, right?
[18:35] : That's also blooming. at 60 really, you know, honoring that
[18:42] : I'm stepping into a lot that feels new, right? Feels new.
[18:50] : It feels fresh. It feels different. All right. Her shape over here is not
[18:56] : quite making me happy. So, I'm gonna clean this up a little
[19:03] : bit. Make her just a little bit more abstract.
[19:19] : There we go. That feels a little bit better. And if you felt like you wanted your doll to feel a little more
[19:27] : realistic, you could add some arms or even some feet. But I love these very
[19:36] : abstract shapes. And I'm just going to glue the fabric on for now. And then again, once it's
[19:43] : completely dry, we'll come back and add some slow
[19:49] : stitching and detail. Maybe even some beads
[20:02] : to her dress. Start at the top there. There we go.
[20:13] : Didn't quite get her exactly lined up, but that's okay. We'll just trim her up.
[20:19] : She's decided she wants to be a little more slender.
[20:28] : All right, her face isn't quite dry yet. So, let's come over here to her tag. And I have a
[20:36] : few pieces that I've gathered. It felt like words were really important
[20:45] : um to include. It's funny. I'm very drawn to the word
[20:50] : corroborate on here, right? Which is support or confirm with
[20:55] : evidence. And you know, as I'm blooming, there's a sense of like the
[21:01] : corroboration is about noticing that I'm blooming. So maybe that would be a fun
[21:08] : little piece to Sorry, I'm sure that's blurry as I lift it up.
[21:18] : So I might cut that out.
[21:23] : Oh, this is actually all three of these words somehow feel fun. Correspond
[21:29] : corridor, you know, a hallway, which always feels like a threshold.
[21:35] : And maybe even just some fun
[21:42] : paper on here. That might be an upper layer. I also from a craft magazine I
[21:49] : picked up, look at this, these beautiful mosaics. I was very drawn to this owl
[21:55] : this morning. So, I think she wants this owl companion.
[22:01] : If you know me at all, you know I love animals, animal symbolism.
[22:08] : Most of my paintings are of animals.
[22:30] : So there's our owl. But I loved this part on this other side of this mosaic
[22:36] : that felt very much like this sense of blooming.
[22:46] : There was a cute little fox. Love these trees.
[22:52] : Love that sunshine. So, just starting to feel these pieces
[22:59] : coming together. When you're working on tags or smaller pieces like this, one of
[23:07] : the things to think about that's interesting is that um
[23:15] : let things hang over the edge, right? So, there's no need to It's really glary
[23:24] : on that shiny paper, isn't it? But let's see. Fussing with the lights. Um, let them
[23:32] : hang over the edge. You can always trim the edges later rather than trying to get things to fit. It's actually much
[23:39] : more effective and time-saving to just get all the pieces on here and then to
[23:48] : kind of shift it as you go along. So, something about these words feel like really
[23:55] : connecting to my own inner wisdom. This is a little scrap of a painty piece. So,
[24:03] : a little bit of someone else's art feels fun on here. That owl might even just
[24:09] : need to hang over the edge here.
[24:16] : I really love that sun. Don't want her to be centered on there.
[24:22] : I want a little more visual interest. These feel like maybe they're part of
[24:29] : her story, but then these words, there might need
[24:35] : to be some paint added on here to kind of start to move it around and make it a
[24:45] : little more my own. I might have to get a little bit of paint out. Good morning, Anna. Welcome. First time joining live.
[24:52] : Delighted to have you. Welcome to our fun little early morning community.
[24:59] : So, I'm liking where this is going. It's definitely feeling interesting and I
[25:06] : want to, you know, make sure that it continues to feel
[25:14] : like me and to tell this story of this wild flower woman blooming. So, the
[25:20] : flowers are kind of loosely represented here. And I'm feeling like it's not
[25:26] : about the words, it is about the image and the wisdom.
[25:32] : And I've got a box with some flowers and stickers here
[25:38] : that I grabbed. And I'm seeing there's a little
[25:46] : bit of gold shiny paper that's capturing my eye. I am such a magpie.
[25:53] : And I love shiny things. So, she might need a little shimmer shimmer to
[25:59] : represent her blooming. What else we got? Oh, here's some pretty
[26:05] : butterflies. You know that blooming transformation, attracted to flowers.
[26:11] : And I have all these great stickers, but they may all be too big.
[26:18] : And I'm going to grab a handful of these flowers. And look, here's a whole thing
[26:24] : of stick on gems. These dolls have wanted to be Oh, there's some pretty flowers. These dolls have wanted to be
[26:30] : very blingy. I ended up adding quite um Hi, Ivonne. Welcome, welcome. So good to
[26:36] : see everybody back today. um they're wanting to be blingy and shiny.
[26:42] : Something about this particular set of dolls and really connecting to that
[26:48] : sense of radiance, right? And as I'm gathering all this stuff and that sense
[26:53] : of blooming, my feeling is that the tag is almost too small. We're connecting to
[27:00] : that sense of wildness, that sense of the untamed,
[27:06] : right? And definitely it feels like there is a lot blooming
[27:14] : and happening as we come together. And does she want this? She's like nope.
[27:22] : Because of I think she's so connected to nature, this aspect of me, this wildflower woman that she's not wanting
[27:30] : like this feels too blingy. So, that'll get saved perhaps for one of our other
[27:38] : dolls. She definitely likes it. Almost feels like she needs a a string of
[27:44] : pearls on here, right? Or something. But
[27:49] : yeah, she's wanting a little more like uh little more texture, little more
[27:56] : layers added. So, these under layers feel good.
[28:02] : And I'm going to go ahead and glue some of this stuff down and we'll just get
[28:08] : started. I'm trying to use up I've got these old cheapy Elmer's kids glue
[28:14] : sticks. They dry clear. They go on purple, which I guess is good for for
[28:19] : kids. And they're not my favorite glue sticks, but I am diligently
[28:27] : I want that to be as far up there on the top as I can
[28:35] : using them up.
[28:40] : And this is where you know that example of just like letting this piece flow
[28:45] : over the edges and the ends and it will get trimmed up later. So little bit of
[28:52] : these words in here.
[28:59] : And you could do this with matte medium. It's a nice way to kind of seal
[29:04] : everything in together. But sometimes when I just want to get it
[29:10] : done and have a little more speed and be able to work in fast layers, I love
[29:17] : using just a plain old glue stick.
[29:24] : All right. Where are you going to go? So, where's the There's the bottom of
[29:29] : the tag. We'll just fold that up for now. Okay. She wants to go there.
[29:37] : So, maybe we'll bring some more of this blue up in here.
[29:45] : And I'm trying to decide if I want to just put a little wash of color over the
[29:51] : whole thing because the background is busy and I want her to really stand out
[29:57] : and I want to keep this bright. But a simple way to do that,
[30:06] : get her out of the way so I don't get her painty.
[30:11] : I'm going to take a little bit of this is one of my favorite. This Amsterdam
[30:16] : turquoise green is a favorite. And I'm going to mix it with just a tiny little bit of ma matte medium
[30:25] : to give it a little more transparency.
[30:32] : And then I'm literally going to just come in and see how many times today. Apparently I can say the word literally.
[30:42] : And I'll smooth this out in a minute. Let's see if I've got a little
[30:47] : Where' my scraper go? I had it just a minute. Do you just lose things like right in front of you on your desk all
[30:55] : the time? the virtue of working in a small space.
[31:01] : Let's see. This sponge will work. This old brush is falling apart, but
[31:07] : it's a good one to use with matte medium, which can gum up your brushes.
[31:18] : Oh, I even kind of like the Maybe I am just going to leave all that texture in
[31:24] : there. It kind of matches some of the texture.
[31:30] : Like the sense is this can't be perfect, right? This is connecting to kind of
[31:35] : that wild, untamed, blooming part of self.
[31:42] : I feel like it needs a little bit of green down here to kind of give it some
[31:48] : ground. So, let's just I'm just going to mix it right with that blue. I'm not even going to wash my brush.
[31:57] : How's everybody doing today? So, when you think about this idea of sort of
[32:03] : your own sense of connecting to what's blooming now, what would you say is
[32:09] : blooming in your own life right now? What is blooming in your own life right now? That's what it needed. It just
[32:15] : needed some little bit of my own hand put in there.
[32:24] : I'm definitely going to want to add that stitching to the
[32:29] : doll to make her stand out even more.
[32:36] : Definitely won't have get all that done in the time I have to play this morning.
[32:48] : Sometimes the tags come together really quickly. Sometimes there's this definite, oh,
[32:55] : this is going to take some time as her story starts to emerge.
[33:05] : Let's see. I want to make sure I bring some of that pops of yellow in. And I
[33:10] : was going to do some paint, but maybe we'll just If we get some of these
[33:16] : flowers in here, really get all of that blooming happening. They kind of match
[33:24] : the fabric of her dress as well. But I'd love to hear from some others.
[33:32] : What's blooming in your life right now? What's blooming in your life right now?
[33:38] : And she's not going to get glued down, which means our owl probably is not going to get glued down right now
[33:46] : either. And I'm going to try some of these on
[33:53] : for size and color. And I think she might want one of these big butterflies
[33:59] : up there at the top.
[34:09] : connecting to the wild within and the wild without.
[34:16] : So that one maybe is too matchy matchy. Kind of like bringing in some of that
[34:23] : purple color. Definitely needs to be one of these smaller butterflies.
[34:32] : And I'm going to go ahead and trim my tag so I make sure I get the butterfly on the tag.
[34:58] : I'm just going up right along the edge, cutting off any of those little extra
[35:05] : bits, making a big mess on my craft table.
[35:12] : There's nothing like collage. You know, I'm always surprised when I have an in-person event or retreat and uh
[35:21] : collage is so much messier than painting. People often think that painting is messier, but it's definitely
[35:29] : collage is uh up there with all of the the paper scraps that get made. Okay. I
[35:36] : love that little bit of purple. And probably going to want to, you know,
[35:42] : bring some of that purple in somewhere else.
[35:48] : Love this little bit of orange here.
[35:55] : And she's ready to have her face put on as well. And again, this is that feels
[36:03] : like there is lots blooming in my life
[36:11] : that I'm very grateful for.
[36:20] : Feels like lots of blooming flowers telling the story.
[36:25] : I love it, Tori. Your creative productivity and organization seems to be blooming and it's so fun. Your house
[36:31] : isn't very clean, but oh well. I totally resemble that remark. I think she's
[36:38] : going to have some little blingy bits.
[36:44] : Give her some butterfly wings. You guys always have fun ideas. So, what if we me
[36:51] : find one of these other big stickers? Let's see
[37:04] : if I can get the package open.
[37:14] : Some dragonfly wings. Maybe these pretty pink wings.
[37:22] : She could have those pink wings floating up behind her like she has
[37:29] : wings like that. Ivonne flowers might have to go on top of the
[37:36] : wings. That's pretty fun. She's very cute. I love how she's coming together. Okay,
[37:42] : she's saying she wants her face drawn on.
[37:54] : And she needs a flower in her hair here, too. So, this is where I'm using just a
[38:00] : really great idea. Of course, it's cute. It was your amazing idea. Um,
[38:07] : just using a fine tip Sharpie gel pen here to just loosely lightly go over the
[38:17] : details of that face and kind of a sketchy style. Gives it even more of that sort of
[38:25] : handdrawn look.
[38:30] : Not trying to get it all perfect.
[38:40] : Not trying to capture every line that's underneath,
[38:46] : but just to get that sense of just brings her to life by adding those little delicate
[38:54] : black lines. And I can even come in and just give some texture to her hair here.
[39:04] : nice curly hair. She might need a little tiny gemstone on
[39:12] : her ear. Or for some reason, you know, I'm looking at her going, I think she needs some pearls. So, I might see what
[39:19] : I have in my stash that would work for that.
[39:25] : She's like, I want I want some bling in my hair. So, I think this is gonna go.
[39:33] : The one last week uh ended up with a flower in her hair, too. So, maybe
[39:39] : there's a theme. And it'll be interesting to see as we go through these four aspects of self in these four
[39:48] : stories, what might emerge that feels the same or similar that ties them all
[39:55] : together, right? that ties. That reminds me that these aren't
[40:01] : separate, but they're all part of me.
[40:19] : All right. Now, it feels like that story is starting to come together.
[40:26] : And I'm trying to decide, do I want to take the time to stitch her or I can
[40:33] : probably just draw on the fabric as if I
[40:38] : were adding some stitches. It just needs that little bit of detail
[40:50] : and some little bolder lines.
[40:58] : to kind of help it sort of come to life a little bit more. I think the the
[41:03] : flowers were just a stencil and some
[41:09] : spray paint through the stencil.
[41:27] : using a sort of teal colored ink joy pen. I love
[41:33] : these pens and black felt too harsh and but this is feeling
[41:41] : like it's bringing just a little bit of that extraj
[41:47] : that it needed to kind of just make sure you could actually see those flowers.
[41:56] : Again, working fast and loose. Uh, somebody in my sisterhood of wisdom and
[42:01] : wonders said in our live call this week that one of the best things she's gotten
[42:06] : out of the membership was learning to work fast, not to overthink things, not
[42:11] : to get too attached, right? But to
[42:18] : just give ourselves permission to just get things down, whether that is words
[42:24] : or images.
[42:32] : Just needs to brighten her up a little bit here.
[42:38] : And it's fun to paint on fabric. You can paint on fabric just like you can on
[42:44] : paper.
[42:50] : And acrylics will stay put. If you use watercolor on fabric, you get really fun
[42:55] : spreading and interesting things happening. But if you want the color to stay put, definitely uh use acrylic.
[43:05] : Let's see. Just need a little bit of little bit of
[43:10] : green here. That greeny blue.
[43:22] : All right, that feels better. Some little bright pops of color. But if we're being blooming and wild, there's
[43:29] : nothing like some fluoresence to come along and really brighten things
[43:36] : up quite a bit.
[43:42] : There we go.
[43:57] : Now she's feeling happier. Again, every time we add our own mark,
[44:04] : our own choice of colors to even something as simple as a stencil, we're
[44:11] : making it our own, right? It doesn't look like anybody else's version.
[44:20] : And the butterfly is going to get a little bit of that
[44:25] : neon pink added there as well. One of the things to know about working
[44:32] : with fluorescents is they are very, very translucent. So, they are great for
[44:40] : final layers in a painting. They're also great for mixing with other colors to
[44:49] : sort of make them a little bolder and brighter.
[45:02] : That all the way around. Okay, now she feels like she's really
[45:08] : coming to life. Like it just takes as long as it takes for that story to
[45:15] : unfold and emerge. And I love the just I
[45:20] : was drawn to that gold at first, but it's just that little bit of sparkle sparkle in that butterfly.
[45:30] : That's just what she needed. And she's wanting these. I think I may
[45:37] : just rather than sticking them individually just glue this whole thing down. So again, that sense of, you know,
[45:44] : blooming where you're planted, of abundance and riches.
[45:51] : So I'm going to see if I can just I might have to use double stick tape. We'll see what happens. Just going to
[45:57] : stick this whole line of these down here. And that purple will, like I said,
[46:04] : dry clear. And I'm going to
[46:10] : take the sticky back off of that butterfly.
[46:22] : Okay, now she feels happy. Happy. Let's get some of this pink down here as
[46:29] : well. And we're going to get some more of
[46:35] : these flowers on. Definitely need some more yellow on
[46:42] : here. I love these little paper flowers. They
[46:49] : are so much fun to play with. You can find them, I think I got them at Michaels. I'm sure you can find them
[46:57] : online in a variety of places. But they are such an easy way to just
[47:04] : add a little dimension and texture.
[47:15] : Let's see.
[47:21] : And my fingers are so sticky. So, she's lost one of her petals there.
[47:27] : But that's okay. So, there she is in all of her blooming
[47:33] : glory coming together. That light is still kind of funny on there. It's hard
[47:39] : to see all of her colors. Okay, we're gonna commit to gluing her
[47:45] : down.
[47:57] : All right. Bring this owl. Get that wise owl in
[48:03] : there. Her constant companion. Zoom that back out a little bit more.
[48:19] : Me, too. Thank you, Tori. I love her, too.
[48:25] : All right, let's get a couple of more these little flowers down here.
[48:48] : And there she is. I think she's complete for now. How about that? she uh needs to
[48:55] : get dried up completely and then you know I might come back and
[49:02] : feels like she probably could use a little contrast. So she might need some
[49:08] : little bit of some just bolder black marks in here somewhere
[49:16] : just to notice
[49:23] : help move our eye around it. It's all looking very bright and sometimes all it
[49:30] : needs is just that little bit of
[49:37] : extra
[49:44] : to kind of come in and make things stand out a little bit more.
[49:52] : Love this owl.
[49:57] : I have something. Let's see. Is this a jelly roll? Feels like she needs some maybe some
[50:04] : little stars in the sky up here.
[50:14] : And it's always these little final pieces for me that kind of, you know,
[50:20] : pull it all together.
[50:26] : Okay, I'm going to quit messing with her. I'm going to call her done for today.
[50:34] : And you know, she might change or get a little something here and there added, but for the moment, she feels pretty
[50:43] : complete. Does she need one of those on her? No,
[50:48] : that feels like too much. Okay, so before I go completely overboard, I'm
[50:54] : going to call her done for today. So this is my wildflower woman representing
[51:00] : the untamed blooming side of myself and I will be
[51:07] : back same time, same place next week. And let me go double check in my notes
[51:15] : what that theme. So next week we're working with the theme of ocean of
[51:20] : emotion. So, we're going to go to the beach next week and to water and
[51:27] : connecting to our emotions through our creative expression and creative play.
[51:34] : Thanks everybody for being here. I so appreciate you and uh look forward to
[51:41] : seeing what it is that you create. You can email them or post them in the Paperd Doll Chronicles forum if you're a
[51:46] : member of our email list. and so happy to be here live with all of you. If
