Come Behind the Curtain: A Peek at My Art Table

mess·Minette Riordan·Oct 10, 2025· 3 minutes

There’s a certain kind of magic that happens when paint, paper, and possibility meet.

When I begin dreaming into a new story or workshop, I don’t start with outlines or plans — I start with color. With messy marks. With play.

My art table becomes an altar of imagination: paints scattered, brushes soaking, scraps of paper layered with half-finished ideas. Threads of story, myth, and meaning start weaving themselves together long before I have words for what they’re becoming.

I’m sharing a few photos with you today of my very messy studio table. I’m working on paintings and small projects like ornaments and journals for the upcoming Loveland Open Studio Tours.

Ideas for my next retreat, The Elemental Retreat, are in the deep dreaming state still.

I’ve got a few samples for one of our Mythical Makeover Experiences too.

And then there’s the personal projects like stitching a journal cover or preparing to create a new doll…

My head is full of ideas for projects I haven’t even had time to start yet but I trust that the right ones will have their time on the table too.

The Beauty of the In-Between

Most of what happens here will never be seen by anyone else — and that’s what makes it sacred. It’s the in-between space where ideas are born, evolve, and sometimes fall apart.

There’s no pressure to make it perfect. I’m just following the whisper of curiosity, trusting that something wants to come through.

Why I’m Inviting You In

So often we only show the “finished” version of our creativity — the neat, polished, ready-for-display pieces. But there’s deep beauty in the raw, half-made moments too.

I wanted to invite you behind the curtain because this is where so much of my teaching and inspiration begin.

Every mark, every brushstroke, every layer of color carries a whisper of what’s next — for me, and often for the women I create with.

A Gentle Invitation

As you look at these images, I hope you’ll feel permission to spread out your own supplies.

You don’t need a plan. Just a few minutes, a page, and the willingness to see what unfolds.

Ask yourself:
What wants to be created through me today?

Maybe it’s a color, a word, a shape. Maybe it’s simply the courage to begin.

If this little peek stirred something in you, I’d love to know what’s been calling you back to your own creativity lately.
